October brings with it an air of excitement as World Cup qualifications get close to the end. (Last games are in October and November.)
World Cup 2018 Qualifications SOUTH AMERICA In a twist of events, Chile - winner of the past two Copa America's, in 2015 and 2016 - has wound up in a precarious position in South American qualifications and they have important games on October 5 and 10 with Ecuador and Brazil. As it turns out, Peru is a making an interesting run, while Argentina is still fighting for a place as well. Things in South America are extremely interesting going into November. CONCACAF Coming out of a 2-0 loss to Costa Rica and a 1-1 tie with Honduras, the United States is still in the hunt for a place in Russia 2018. Mexico and Costa Rica are sure things while the US, Panama and Honduras are competing for the last spots. ASIA Saudi Arabia, Iran, South Korea and Japan are set for Russia. Syria and Australia are squared off to determine who will play the North American team for a continental playoff, and a chance to join Russia 2018. AFRICA Five teams from Africa are waiting to finalize their places in Russia, and of those Senegal is hoping to pull out a last minute run, while Tunisia is holding ground at the top of their group. EUROPE Can Holland do it? Can they miraculously squeeze into World Cup Russia? Probably not, it looks tough. Albania might make a run, while Italy and other second place group finishers are looking ahead to "Round Two" - the final round, which will determine the teams going to Russia.
